Marysville, Victoria
We were very pleased to be approached by a Wine Club Member to look at the wines from Buxton Ridge. The winery is of course very close to Marysville and to the quite appalling events that we are all very aware of and to then talk first hand to Michael one of the Owners and the wine maker just brought home again the truly dreadful scenes that so many faced as they watched a fire roar towards them.

One of the great ways of " finding " a vineyard is for other wineries to recommend another and this was the case here.
t tried in 2008 and we have been trying to make a space for them ever since as the GSM , the Shiraz and the Cabernet all " over deliver " at their pricing point and will cellar well for a good 10 years
David & Wendy Lloyd purchased this most picturesque of vineyards in 1995 which features some of the most spectacular views of the Mornington Peninsula. The vineyard is 225 meters above sea level and is on rich terra rossa volcanic loam on a northerly facing slope hence sheltering it from harsh winds and allowing a long cool ripening period.

The words " bah humbug " uttered in the classic Charles Dickens novel of Christmas Carol must have rung in the ears of those early sailors becalmed in this idyllic stretch of the Tamar River. Taking its' name from nautical charts , Humbug Reach vineyard creates outstanding cold climate wines from hand nurtured vines.

The best thing is to quote John Russell at this point :
Schubert Estate THE GOSLING. This 100% Shiraz was introduced to the Schubert family and friends a few years back as a non-vintage M.R.S. (Mates Rates Shiraz). Its easy drinking style soon caught on with those who were introduced to the wine. The popularity of the Goose-yard Block wines soon convinced the Schuberts to introduce their second wine (screw cap closure) - The Gosling. It has developed into a more stylish wine with the 2005 receiving 92 points from Halliday it's a fine addition to the Schubert Estate stable.
' Our name was inspired from the numerous times waiters, friends and even ourselves who have offered that last smidge in the bottle. Now it also captures our vision for quality where each wine must be of such an exceptional standard that you won't resist another smidge, and equally, as a micro producer it reflects the volumes we make... and yes, we'll only ever have a smidge available! '
The Whish - Wilson Family have perhaps one of the most beautiful settings ever for a vineyard and should be seen to be believed!
