Henri Goutorbe

Champagne, France

Henri GoutourbeChampagne Henri Goutorbe is a small family owned and operated winery in the idyllic town of Ay.

Ay is located a few kilometres north of Epernay in the heart of Champagne and is home to the well-known Champagne houses of Bollinger, Gossett and Deutz.

The Goutorbe family business began as a viticultural nursery. At the end of World War 1 Emile Goutorbe, who was the Chief viticulturist with Perrier Jouet, started his own nursery. Emile bought small parcels of vineyard when it was possible. His son Henri established the Goutorbe label towards the end of the 1940's. An initial small production of 4000 bottles per year was used to supplement the income from the nursery.

Today Champagne Henri Goutorbe is owned and managed by Henri, his son René along with René's wife Nicole and their children Elisabeth, Bertrand and Ettiene. The total vineyard area is 20 hectares comprising 70% Pinot Noir, 27% Chardonnay and 3% Pinot Meunier, with a current production of 150,000 bottles.
